Director of Development

REPORT TO: VP for Development & Marketing

DEPARTMENT: Development

FULL TIME / PART TIME: Full Time

EXEMPT / NONEXEMPT: Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of five years successful non-profit fundraising experience
  • Demonstrated success cultivating individual donors and soliciting $1,000 gifts
  • Demonstrated success grant writing and managing relationships with high-level foundation donors
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends, as appropriate

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate as a member of CVI’s fundraising team
  • In collaboration with the VP for Development & Marketing, set strategy for CVI’s major gifts campaign
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement CVI’s major gift program to meet the organization’s fundraising goals
  • Personally manage a portfolio of high level individual and foundation donors and prospects
  • Develop and implement cultivation activities and events for major donors and prospects
  • Identify and cultivate planned giving prospects
  • Manage relationships with high-level foundation donors
  • Oversee all grants related activities
  • Supervise Grant Writer

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Individual Giving:

  • Develop, plan and implement CVI’s major gift initiative including analysis of constituent files, prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 100-125 prospects and donors, with an annual target of 75-100 meaningful donor contacts that advance the fundraising process towards solicitation
  • Work with development team to design multiple solicitation opportunities for current donors and prospects
  • In collaboration with the VP for Development & Marketing, develop and implement cultivation activities and personal visits to generate interest in the Cook Legacy Society

Foundation Relations:

  • Oversee all grants related activities, including portfolio management of 50-75 private, family and corporate foundation prospects
  • Supervise activities of the Grant Writer, including cultivation, solicitation, reporting and stewardship
  • Personally manage a portfolio of 10-20 high-level private, family and corporate foundation prospects and donors

General

  • Maintain accurate records of fundraising activities and interaction with prospects and donors using CVI donor management software, including recording contact reports for all substantive prospect and donor communication
  • Inform Vice President of Development & Marketing and President of activities and include other CVI personnel in visits and meetings as appropriate
  • Participate in CVI Board of Trustees Fundraising Committee meetings, involving volunteers in the stewardship/solicitation/proposal process, as appropriate
  • Write and edit high-level donor communications as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
  • Sitting and or standing for periods of time
  • Ability to travel independently as needed
