We have all heard numerous times those infamous New Year’s resolutions to eat healthy, get in shape and lose weight. Most people have the desire to carry it out but might not have a workable strategy in mind. It is important that if your goals for this year are to be healthy and fit that you have a good plan that you can follow. CVI understands this and knows the need for people that have vision loss to stay healthy and active.
With that in mind, we have provided adaptive devices in our VisAbility Store, a fitness center and exercise classes at CVI. So, whether your goal is to lose weight, be healthier or just move your body around, CVI can help you do just that. Now get off that sofa, put down that bag of potato chips and let’s get healthy and fit!
One of the first things when creating a game plan to get healthy and stay in shape is to know where you are. If you are trying to lose weight you need to know how much you currently weigh in order to set your goals.
Using the Phoenix talking scale by My Weigh can help. This wide platform scale with raised lines for accurate foot placement comes with an extra-large digital display and goes up to 330 pounds. It includes a 9-volt battery and can speak in four different languages. Just step on the scale and position your feet and an audio read out will be given to you of your weight. You can hear your weight in either pounds or kilograms. A bit on the larger size? No need to fret. My Weigh has another talking scale that goes up to 500 pounds call the EL-550 high capacity talking scale. This scale has all the same features but uses 4 AA batteries instead.
For those that are health conscious and want to check their blood pressure the VisAbility Store offers the A&D medical premier talking blood pressure monitor. This monitor includes a cuff and 4 AA batteries. On the face of the monitor there is a large size start button with a raised dot along with additional buttons that give menu options and stored blood pressure measurements. The monitor has the capacity to store up to 90 readings and will give a morning and evening average. It can also be programmed to speak in multiple languages. The monitor comes in a simple travel case with an adapter so you can even check your blood pressure on the go.
Now it is time to exercise! A huge part of being healthy and fit is moving your body around and burning those calories! The VisAbility Store also has the talking digital jump rope. This jump rope is battery operated and can give a verbal reading of your calories burned, time you have been jumping and the number of jumps. Just insert the rope into the handles and adjust to your height and then start jumping! You are sure to burn some major calories in no time.
If jumping rope is not your thing and you want to focus on a quiet and calmer approach to exercise, then attend CVI’s yoga class.
