ATLANTA, GA – Susan B. (Subie) Green, president of Georgia’s Center for the Visually Impaired, was recently elected as Chair of VisionServe Alliance, a national not-for-profit organization comprised of private agencies serving people who are blind or visually impaired. Ms. Green has been a member since 2001, and her two-year term begins this month.
“We never know the importance of private organizations that serve people who are blind or visually impaired until we need them,” said Green. “I’m proud to head a group that provides opportunities for the great outcomes that are possible for people with vision loss across the U.S.”
Subie Green became the president of the Center for the Visually Impaired (CVI) in May 2001. She has led CVI’s growth to become the leading vision rehabilitation organization in Georgia through its move to a new Midtown location, the opening of its VisAbility Store, and the expansion of programs to empower people who are impacted by vision loss to live with independence and dignity. In 2005, Subie co-founded the Georgia Vision Collaborative, a group of organizations throughout the state that provide vision services and promote eye health. Her special interest in vision rehabilitation arose when her husband, Phil, became visually impaired soon after they were married.
“As Chair of our Board of Directors, Subie will contribute a depth of knowledge in nonprofit management and services to people who are blind that will greatly benefit VisionServe Alliance and impact services to people who are blind across the country,” said Roxann Mayros, president and CEO of VisionServe Alliance. Founded in 1987, the mission of VisionServe is to represent, network and advocate, focusing on public policy, education, improvement of services and professional growth, for organizations that serve people with blindness or visual impairment and their clients. Collectively, the members represent a wide array of organizations serving people who are blind across the country including vision rehabilitation agencies, schools for the blind, guide dog schools, braille producers and research organizations.
