  • Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Teaching, Teacher of the Visually Impaired, or related field or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in education or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of computer and assistive technology for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
  • Strong knowledge in Fusion, ZoomText, and Office Suite.
  • Two years of experience providing instruction to persons who are blind or visually impaired.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Android and Mac accessibility
  • Knowledge of Google drive documents


Under the supervision of the Senior Assistive Technology Instructor provides group and individual instruction in the areas of Office Suite, computer basics, adaptive software, mobile devices, and other work-related programs. Assist with development of teaching materials/lessons plans.

  • Assess skills of assigned clients and the need for instruction in computer and adaptive technology use and develops individualized plan of instruction.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Assistive Technology Instructor, develop lesson plans and teaching materials to maintain updated and current curriculum.
  • Lead individualized and small group instruction utilizing keyboarding programs such as (TypeAbility) as well as use of computers with adaptive software and hardware.
  • Emphasize visual and non-visual modes for accessing information to maximize overall client learning.
  • Makes careful observations and evaluations concerning clients progress and maintains appropriate records. Prepares monthly progress reports on assigned clients by due date.
  • Maintains accurate records of inventory in the technology classroom.
  • Cooperates and consults with other staff members and appropriate community resources on behalf of the client. Is an integral member of the rehabilitation team, coordinating assistive technology with other client services.
  • Participate in public education functions of the agency as needed.
  • Makes recommendations to the Senior Assistive Technology instructor and New View Director concerning computer curriculum development, purchase of additional equipment and software and other issues related to the delivery of state-of-the-art computer instruction.
  • Other duties as assigned.
